Your Profession Puzzles Parents Bring them Round the Office!
Your Profession Puzzles Parents Bring them Round the Office! LinkedIn, daughter company of Microsoft, has released research today revealing that half of parents in the UK believe they wouldnât be able to do their childâs job for a day, and over a fifth (22 percent) think they would be fired if they tried to â" which could be down to 71 percent not fully understanding what their child does for a living. Anyone shocked yet? I dont think you have to be a parent to not know what some people fill their days with. How many times have you heard what does a social media manager actually do, spend all day on Facebook? And hey, some days I even ask myself what I do and Im pretty sure Im not the only one. Am I? Hello? Anyway, to help bridge parent-child-job-blank-spot this gap, LinkedIn is today holding its fourth annual Bring In Your Parents Day initiative, where hundreds of companies across the UK, and the world, open their doors to their employeesâ parents on Friday. To mark this yearâs initiative, LinkedIn today released a new global study looking at the relationship between professionals and their parents, showing there is a significant disconnect and lack of communication between parents and their children when it comes to work. Parents donât understand some of todayâs top jobs The study also showed that parents in the UK donât understand some of the top jobs available today: UI designer (93%) Data scientist (82%) Actuary (77%) Social media manager (75%) Sub editor (71%) Sociologist (71%) Investment banker (64%) Radio producer (61%) PR manager (61%) Software developer (59%) Eileen Gregory, Head of International People at Adroll: For an Ad Tech company like us, where many of the roles did not exist a generation ago, itâs a great opportunity to shine a light on what it is we do, and share that with the friends and families of our Rollers. Itâs also an opportunity to experience the unique culture we have here at AdRoll and something we pride ourselves on. In that respect, I would encourage any company who can facilitate this to get involved. Parents put off by todayâs workplace Only 12 percent of parents in the UK would like to do their childâs job, compared to nearly half (46 percent) of parents in Singapore, a third in Ireland, over half (54 percent) in Sweden and 48 percent in Hong Kong. In fact, over a fifth (22 percent) of British parents think they would be fired if they tried to do their childâs job. This could be down to changes in the workplace, with 15 percent of parents being put off doing their childâs job because of the long working hours, two-fifths (41 percent) feeling they wouldnât have the right skills and over half (53 percent) feeling there is too much jargon in the workplace today. Michael Brunt, CMO, The Economist: Employees from across our business units will be bringing in their parents on November 4th to show them around our headquarters in central London. We will also participate on our social media channels by sharing views on how an ageing global population will affect societies and economic growth. Brit parents donât shout about their kidsâ achievements UK parents are some of the most modest in the world when it comes to talking about their childrenâs achievements. Just six percent say they brag all the time about their childâs professional achievements, compared to a fifth of parents in the US and India, and a massive two-fifths (39 percent) in Sweden. Over a third (36 percent) of UK parents say they would never brag about their childâs achievements to others, second only to parents in the Netherlands where 47 percent say they never do this. Holly Middlemiss, Talent Brand Engagement Partner at ASOS: Bring In Your Parentsâ is a great initiative for us here at ASOS. Being an online-only global company, we have such a huge variation of different roles across our business and often create new positions which didnât exist a few years ago to cater to the quickly evolving industry. When chatting to our ASOSers about family they often say âmy parents or loved ones have no idea what I doâ, so BIYP is a great opportunity to show the most important people in our lives what we do every day. Parents vs. their children UK parents believe their children have more opportunities in the workplace than they did, with over half (52 percent) of mothers feeling their daughter has more opportunity to progress in their career than they did, compared to a massive 77 percent of parents in India. Two-thirds (58%) of British parents feel their kids make more money than they did at the same age, 39 percent think they have more opportunity to learn new skills, and a third (31 percent) feel their children are on track to be more successful than they were in their career. Judith Everett, Chief Operating Officer for The Crown Estate: Really successful businesses want to go further than shaping a high performing culture, they want to be known as great places to work and thrive to attract and retain the best talent. âBring In Your Parents Dayâ is an excellent opportunity for our employees to show their parents what they do every day, as well as bring together different parts of our business.

Content Management Tips for Personal Branding - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career
Content Management Tips for Personal Branding - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career Content management doesnt sound very exciting, but content management is not an option if you want to build your personal brand as a high-visibility subject area expert. The following tips will help you create a content management systeman easy way to consistently plan, produce, and track your book and marketing content. Using a content management system to plan and track your ideas will save you great amounts of time and improve the quality of your writing. Content management systems contribute to stronger brands by saving time and improving writing quality. Advantages of content management systems No matter how young you are, its never too soon to commit to a content management system. Content and the creation of a strong personal brand go hard-in-hand. Here are 3 reasons why content management systems contribute to personal brands: Efficiency. Theres an inverse relationship between project complexity and the likelihood of its completion. When tasks take too long to complete, or are stressful and energy-draining, theyre likely to be put off until tomorrow. As unfinished tasks mount up, it becomes harder and harder to get caught up, with the result that your prospects never experience your good ideas and your ability to offer concise, relevant advice. A content plan speeds your writing by making it easier to decide what to write about and by providing a framework for completing each article, blog post, or newsletter. Content plans also make it easy to recycle and reuse your best ideas. Focus. Individuals and firms with strong and lasting personal brands are rarely generalists. Instead, they stand for something; they have created a position which sets them apart from their competition. This requires constantly replenished content that focuses on a few, key themes and topics which reinforce their focus. Without a content plan, youre apt to make reactive, hasty, last-minute content decisions instead of constantly reinforcing your position. Quality. Writing inevitably get better when there is a plan behind it. By identifying what youre going to write, and when youre going to write it, you have more time to choose your arguments, examples, and stories. Writing proceeds faster, because, by identifying topics ahead of time, youre engaging your brain before you start writing. When you sit down to write, youre likely to be surprised at how easy the words come, because your brain has already identified and prioritized your ideas. Faster writing, finishing your first draft faster, contributes to better quality by creating more time to edit and tweak your work. Content management system options There are many ways you can implement a content management system to create the content necessary to build your personal brand. Content Management options include: Lists and outlines. One of the easiest ways to create a content management system is to make use of your word processing programs ability to create lists and outlines. Create a new file, possibly named Master Topics and store it in its own folder. List the major themes and ideas essential to the brand you want to create. Then, under each of the main themes, add and indent the titles of specific topics and deadlines. At a glance, youll be able to review your key ideas, the specific topics associated with each one, and the deadlines for completing each topic. Spreadsheets. Spreadsheets, created with programs like Microsoft Excel, carry the idea of lists much further. Place each topic on a different row of your spreadsheet. Use different columns to reference the keyword, or theme, appropriate for each topic, and use the other columns for deadlines, completion dates, and content ideas. Mind maps. Mind maps, created for software programs like Mindjets MindManager, add a visual dimension to your content plan. Mind maps organize ideas into clouds; the topics correspond to the main ideas and teams important for your brand, and the subtopics display specific articles, blog posts, newsletters, podcasts, or YouTube videos. Theres also space to insert due dates and completion dates, as well as track the number of comments or referrals generated by each blog post or web page. Whats important, of course, is not so much the system you choose, but your commitment to consistently using it. The effectiveness of any tool is based on your commitment to consistently putting it to work. Conclusion Content, an ongoing stream of helpful, relevant ideas, is the fundamental building block of a strong personal brand. A content management system can greatly enhance your ability to write the articles, blog posts, and newsletters, needed to build your personal brand. Your content management system permits you to plan your messages in advance and save time by preparing them as efficiently as possible. Equally important, a content management system helps you keep track of previously-written topic, so you dont have to continually reinvent the wheel rather than building on what youve already written. Whats your content management system? Do you have one? Do you think you need one? Comment, below. Author: Best-selling author and book coach Roger C. 2020 Trends That Will Shake Up Workplaces
2020 Trends That Will Shake Up Workplaces Internal communications and workplace flexibility will reign supreme in the 2020 workplace. The convergence of the startup and corporate company cultures will lead to the emergence of âemployee firstâ culture when it comes to EX, while CSR initiatives will increase with the help of digitalization. In the not so distant past, flexible working was seen as a perk provided only by certain businesses and in many instances only in isolated occasions. Today, in contrast, flexible working is the make or break factor for many employees. This has led from the smallest startup to the largest corporate, like Barclays, Cisco and Vodafone offering flexible working. Some, such as Simply Business have gone as far as starting to offer 4-day weeks. Expect many many more of this in 2020. One of the challenges technology has brought to the modern world is communication overload. Gone are the days where we only communicated by email. Tools such as Zoom, Notion, and Slack are becoming an everyday fixture in the modern workplace. This, in turn, has led to a rise in communication specialists as organizations try navigating new complexities such as lower productivity, increasing stress levels and more confusion (where the intention was clarity), associated with these initiatives. As we head into 2020, the startup and corporate culture clash will become a thing of the past, particularly when it comes to EX. We are already seeing large corporations moving closer to that startup feel by offering cooler, more inspirational workplaces a huge change compared to the traditional office environment of the past. On the flip side, many startups are moving rapidly into the scaleup territory, with thousands of customers and hundreds of employees, and with this, they too, are seeing a new level of formality required across communication and administrative systems. Expect to see these two traditionally conflicting cultures converge and the emergence of an âemployee firstâ culture, combining elements of both, in 2020. Finally, CSR policies will also come into sharp focus next year as employers become under increasing pressure to provide initiatives for a socially-conscious generation, while partners and clients also start to pose questions about CSR. Currently, 63% of Brits donât get any time off for volunteering illustrating thereâs clearly work to be done. With this, addressing climate change and helping the local community come top of the pile, and online platforms such as Beam, the worldâs first crowdfunding network for homeless, will make it easier than ever to support them. Louise Jones, People Advisor at Perkbox, comments: âOften in the midst of day to day business and targets we forget to pause and reflect as employers on what our goals are to improve the employee experience of our company. Let these predictions be a timely reminder to put employee voice at the forefront as we enter the new yearâ. Why a Bad Speech Can Be Your Best CareerMetis.com
Why a Bad Speech Can Be Your Best â" CareerMetis.com Photo Credit â" Pixabay.comAs a young professional, communications skills are vital to your success; your competencies in presenting your ideas to an audience are key to standing out from the crowd. The challenge is that speeches and presentations donât always go as intended and it is essential that you understand how to deal with the situation when it happens (and it will). But not to worry. Itâs counterintuitive, but your best speech can be given when you screw up.Iâve had all the nightmares happen to me. Slides come up out of order, I suddenly forget the point Iâm trying to make in the middle of a sentence, power is interrupted and slides disappear and the room goes dark, my iPhone goes off (I know, my problem) while I am speaking and a heckler chooses to be a co-speaker and tries to dominate the airspace. These unpredictable events are opportunities; time to pump it up not shut down. The psychology is quite simple.People like the unpolished, un-slick and informal. They like r eal.And real is having the unexpected happen in a presentation. The key is what you do when it happens. And if you recover well thatâs what the audience will remember and talk about; the screwup contributes to the experience they had with you. They forget that the microphone went out and remember what you said and did when you were silenced by technology.Donât deny the event. It happened and everyone knows it.Use it as a catalyst to send you in an unplanned direction.Use it as a force to do something different.Use it as an opportunity which may not otherwise have presented itself to surprise people and blow them away with your ability to go with the flow.Acknowledge the heckler, thank them for the interruption (yes thank them!) and use their point to strengthen your own. Never put them down; honour their right to disagree with you. When you forget your point, make a joke about yourself â" âAn unexpected senior moment highly unusual at the age of 30â. People love it when you mak e yourself the butt of a joke.My formulaâ¦Screwup success = stay on form (keep your momentum going) + SURPRISE âem with something they donât expect.Think about what you will do before it happens.Be prepared for âMurphyâ

Resume Writing Service
Resume Writing ServiceLooking for an India resume writing service? To be able to convey what you have to offer your prospective employer, it is necessary that you ensure the content of your resume is so focused and relevant that your prospective employer will immediately know exactly what your capability is. It must be written in such a way that when it is presented at the interview, you stand out as the most suitable candidate to be hired. The first consideration is how long you have been employed. If you have been employed for quite some time, you are well aware that it takes a lot of time to learn about the organization that is hiring. At this stage of your career, it is not advisable to highlight every experience that you have had throughout your tenure at the company. The idea is to focus on your strengths, but do not overdo it by trying to brag about every fact and detail of your career. The second thing to consider is whether or not the Indian employee base has any vacancies at present. This is important to be certain about as if there are vacancies that you are qualified to fill, you will stand out in your resume. A good writing service would understand this and would even provide you with information as to the number of vacancies that the company is having at the moment. In most cases, a writing service would also provide you with the right job description to ensure that you have covered all the bases. This ensures that your resume is not only tailored to your own needs, but also so relevant that your resume does not stand out in comparison with the rest of the applicants. The profile is the next section of your resume to which you should pay special attention. The profile will show what sort of work you are capable of doing, and what skills you may have that will be of benefit to the company. This section of your resume is primarily for your future employer to see so as to ascertain whether or not they need you to fill a vacancy or not.Companies usually find it important to know if you have any prior experience. This is good news because companies that are looking for personnel to fill a position often look for previous experience on the part of the person being interviewed. For this reason, you will want to be sure that this section of your resume accurately describes what you have done previously. The third part of your resume will be the career development plan or the 'check list'. In order to get through the selection process successfully, you will want to ensure that this section does not look out of place. The check list should be able to convince the hiring manager that you are someone who can be hired without much ado. Finally, you will want to put together the sales section, and any other special sections that you are allowed to include in the promotional section. In India, it is possible for a company to request that you include a section in your resume, which spells out what you can do for them. You should also ensure that you use the same format for your sales sections as you would for the rest of your resume. This will ensure that the entire section is read in the correct manner. After you have completed all of your preparation, you should ensure that you present your resume in the format as per the Indian hire, and with the appropriate information about your past employment history. Be certain that your resume is submitted in both its original and translated versions. There is nothing worse than having your resume distorted for one reason or another.
